Explore The City

With the rise of covid-19, people tend to distance themselves from shopping malls. Good news is, malls have stepped up safety measures in recent months with strict SOPs implemented. If you feel like exploring mall for some window (or impulsive) shopping, look no further than the few malls we featured in our blog.

5 Shopping Malls You Must Visit in Kuala Lumpur

We all know Malaysians take their retail therapy seriously with a wide array of shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. From neighbourhood malls to major malls, we are spoilt for choices when it comes to shopping.

Did you know, Sunway Velocity and MyTown shopping mall located in the suburb of Cheras were both completed in the same year and are located only 500 meters apart! Whereas in the KL City Centre itself we have 8 major malls. Imagine having first time foreign visitors to Kuala Lumpur and all you need to do to round off a memorable day trip is to pay several shopping malls a visit – how convenient would that be?

Unfortunately, the recent pandemic has crippled the retail sector and many retailers were forced to shut down. Renowned department stores such as Robinson and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream chain had announced exits from Malaysia. The emergence of e-commerce platforms doesn’t make things any easier for brick and mortars retailers either. That being said, we believe when travel returns, shopping malls will still be a go-to place as consumers value the ability to see, touch, feel and try out a product before making a purchase.

Let’s take a look at few shopping malls in Malaysia that are worth visiting in Klang Valley:

Mid Valley Megamall

One of the largest shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur is no other than Mid Valley Megamall, located just 10 mins outside of KL main city area. The mall has the best array of retailers which cater to a wide range of target audience.

The mall is also surrounded by various residential properties and commercial offices, which contributed to its vibrancy and popularity. Commuters will also find joy as the pedestrian bridge linking the mall to Abdullah Hukum LRT station was recently completed. So, what are you waiting for, come visit Mid Valley Megamall if you have not – just make sure not to get lost while exploring the mega-mall.

It is a popular boutique neighbourhood mall catered to both locals and expats. Bangsar Village 1 is designed to be family-oriented and has a handful of clothing stores catering to the needs of growing families. Bangsar Village II, on the other hand, is for those seeking simple elegance with a selection of contemporary restaurants, curated design goods and luxury fashion brands. If you decide to visit this mall, don’t forget to also explore the surrounding commercial shops that offer great F&B options such as KGB Burger, VCR Café and Sri Nirwana Maju Restaurant.

Thinking of visiting a mall, but want to experience something further away from the city centre? Located in the suburban neighbourhood of Cheras, Sunway Velocity is the latest mall that is increasingly popular among visitors. It is a seven-storey shopping mall that spans 92,000 square meters.

One of the highlights of this mall is definitely its neo-futuristic exterior that will instantly grab every passer-bys’ attention. Opened up in 1988, the mall is located at the base of the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers (once the tallest building in the world) and is home to an array of luxury brands.
